Student Discipline Introduction

Students are expected to make themselves aware of and abide by California State University, Fresno’s standards of behavior as articulated in this section, the University Catalog, and other regulations of the California State University System. Students accept the rights and responsibilities of membership in the University when they are applicants, when they are enrolled in the University, and when they are between terms of enrollment. At the university, as elsewhere, lack of knowledge or understanding of the expected standards of behavior does not excuse unacceptable or inappropriate conduct.

Because the functions of our University depend on honesty and integrity among its members, the University expects from its students a higher standard of conduct in scholarship and behavior.

Activities of students may result in violation of law, and students who violate the law may incur penalties prescribed by civil authorities and the criminal justice system. However, the University maintains the right to review such incidents independent of action by civil or criminal justice authorities, recognizing that the University's authority and its disciplinary process serve its educational mission and interest, a function separate from action by civil and criminal justice authorities.
