01/15/2004- GEAR UP has started a brand new Journalism Club at Mendota High School which will be responsible for putting out a monthly newsletter focused on campus and community news and events. The first issue was a great success and we look forward to the community getting involved with the newletter.

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) was funded on September 1, 1999 with $1,858,546.00 for 5 years. The project is located at McCabe Junior High School in Mendota, CA, and is designed to create partnerships between the school, community, parents and university to effect systemic changes that will lead to increased college entry rates for program participants and members of their families. The project will start with 300 sixth and seventh graders and grow to 600 students.
